![]() What is Counselling and How Can Counselling Help? Talking to a professional counsellor can help you feel more in control when cancer confronts you or a loved one. Sometimes your emotions seem all over the place, you might feel that you are not coping or wonder if you are going a bit crazy. Counselling will help you work through these thoughts and feelings and restore a sense of perspective, clarity and control for you. Having someone who can listen to you and who is not emotionally involved is a big help. Most people feel a little nervous when they come to counselling for the first time, so don't worry; you will soon settle down and find the experience worthwhile in a safe and supportive environment. Creative Arts Therapy along with Counselling Creative Arts Therapy is not about being an artist; no skills in the arts are required. Children draw or write stories naturally, allowing their imagination to do the work. Adults can too. When we explore our experience in creative forms, we enlarge the possibilities of knowing and understanding ourselves. Creative arts therapy is an effective way to use the arts to complement words, particularly when we feel unable to describe how life is. So we converse and at times you are offered to draw, write, or use objects and metaphors to represent your current circumstances and the way in which they affect you. Understanding what you do gives you choices. Creating images is an established and powerful way to understand and resolve life's challenges. |
