Hello my name is Chris
I'm 45, married with 2 daughters who are 13 and 6 years old and I am a Bloomhill Client.
My journey with cancer started 10 years ago and quite literally it felt like someone had glued a telephone book onto my back. Every time my cancer has reoccurred the yellow pages have got a bit heavier, as they do.
My family and I had only recently moved to the Sunshine when I drove past the Bloomhill Cancer Help sign and thought, I'd like to volunteer there. Unfortunately I had to go one better.
My cancer came back for the 3rd time at the end of last year and when I couldn't hold everything together anymore, Bloomhill became my safe haven.
Bloomhill is a place where I know I can go and be supported and nurtured, the way I want to be. One of the most important times for me is going to support group and meeting other people on the same journey.
I can go and have a massage or some reflexology, go to meditation or relaxation classes or go to counselling. What I feel I need. Because cancer affects your whole family in different ways it's just as important that they can go to Bloomhill too.
My husband goes to a 'Men's Carers Support Group' and my daughters go the children's counsellor. When they want to access other services they can.
I go to Bloomhill when I'm frightened about treatments and the future. I go to Bloomhill when I'm a bit crazy, because I finally jumped out of a plane. I go to Bloomhill when I'm excited about how blue the sky is.
Lots of people with a serious illness contemplate the meaning of life. I came across a quote by the Deli Lahma that has meant a lot to me.
" The purpose of our existence is to seek happiness"
Going to Bloomhill makes me happy
