Volunteer Position Description
Reporting Relationship: Volunteers are directly responsible to the Volunteer Coordinator and ultimately the Bloomhill Management Committee.
Role: Volunteers are responsible for providing support in the form of care and companionship, as well as practical assistance in the form of transport and or basic house keeping duties, to members of the community facing cancer and other life challenging illness, to their families and friends, from the time of diagnosis onwards. Volunteers also provide support to Bloomhill administration, maintenance and gardening for the Bloomhill site. Also volunteers are an intregral part of the running of each Op Shop; duties are of a retail nature.
The Person: Volunteers are members of the community who contribute their time, energy and skills to helping at Bloomhill Cancer Help. Palliative Care trained volunteers are at least 18 years of age, have not experienced a major personal bereavement within the past 12 months and can make a commitment of a minimum of four hours per week for at least 12 months.
Selection Criteria: * Capacity to support and care for members of the community facing cancer and other life challenging illness, their families and friends, whilst maintaining their own health and well-being. * Ability to accept individuals, their personal choices and specific approach to their care needs, irrespective of race, gender,age,political beliefs, spiritual beliefs or sexual preferences. * Commitment to confidentiality. * Ability to communicate with others * Ability to understand instruction and carry out tasks as directed, at an appropriate level of skill and duty of care. * Ability to be available on a regular basis. * Ability to operate in a flexible manner, both individually and as a team member. * Sense of humour. * Desire to serve others. |
