Lymphoedema Service

Our Lymphoedema team comprises an experienced registered nurse and Lymphoedema Therapist trained and certified with Norton School of Lymphology, Texas Women's University, USA.  Staff are highly committed to providing the best care possible to the approximately 20% of people with cancer who experience secondary lymphoedema. We also partner with private providers, the McGrath Breast Care Nurse and the NGH Lymphoedema Clinic to provide care.

Bloomhill offers L-Dex bioimpedance measurement to clients as part of the lymphoedema service.  The L-Dex device accurately and objectively measures the amount of extra cellular fluid in a limb, and is considered the gold standard for lymphoedema monitoring. Current clinical guidelines recommend pre-surgery measure, followed by assessment each three months for the first year, six monthly for the next two years, and then yearly.

Our service is tailored to suit individuals, and encompasses monitoring, education and awareness, self-management training, group classes and individual therapy. Compression garments may be prescribed (but not provided).
