Georgie Bird has the smarts of the digital age, a self-motivated woman of start-ups and international networking. She also has the heart of a Tassie girl who has been volunteering since her teens.

Georgie started with Bloomhill early this year and said even in her second week she “did not feel like a new person but part of a team who work together”, “of being valued and needed”.

And that’s the feeling of the happy team around her. Vibrant and tech savvy Georgie’s job is to manage and oversee signature events at Bloomhill as well as assist the charity improve its digital marketing footprint.

A member of the Bloomhill Advancement Team which works from the affectionately named ‘BAT’ Cave underneath the main building, her aim is to increase brand awareness and key relationships - by making it easier for people to access information online to Get Help, Volunteer and Give Back to Bloomhill Cancer Care.

Central to her approach will be sharing the impactful, vibrant and community focused ethos of the organisation.

The entire Bloomhill team work tirelessly to provide holistic health and wellbeing services to people of all ages and all cancer types.

“There continues to be a strong need for community support to not only provide longevity of the wonderful therapies and programs currently offered, but to also open up opportunities for transformational support that will enable the Centre to offer more services to more people in the future.”

Georgie has a message for those who would like to lend their support in 2020. “With Bloomhill’s fundraising and communications team made up of just 2.5 part-time paid staff, we will be focusing our efforts on ensuring the success of our eight signature events and doing everything we can to empower our community to Fundraise for Us.”

“It takes a village to raise enough money to meet the cancer care needs of our community, we need all the help we can get!”

“Each of our signature events are jam-packed with opportunities to have fun, connect with your community, while also raising awareness and much needed funds for services offered at the Bloomhill Wellness Centre in Buderim.” “There is something there for everyone and we’d love to see you there!”

And for those who would like to raise awareness and fundraise in other ways?

“WE are currently rolling out a brand new resource kit to support our wonderful network of community groups and businesses that generously choose to Fundraise for Bloomhill. The pack includes a range of tools to help you register your event/fundraiser with us and make it a success.”

So how did the girl from Tassie come to be at Bloomhill? Her sense of adventure saw her pack her life into her car and come to a place she had been to before and had “felt at home”. She met Nikki (Associate Director, Development of the Bloomhill Advancement Team) at a networking event and offered her services as a volunteer.

Fast forward just two months and Georgie is now a Bloomhill employee using the skills she honed in tech start-ups and the heart she has brought to serving the community since she was 15.

Her passion started from being introduced to Down Syndrome Tasmania, where her involvement included general volunteering, substitute dance teacher, camp committee member and finally taking a seat on the signature gala event committee.

Within her time on the committee, over $150,000 was raised at this local gala event on the North West coast of Tasmania with funds all going back into the Down Syndrome community. An achievement she is proud of being able to help raise in the 5 years she was a member of the committee.

"We are super excited to welcome Georgie to the team and are confident our wonderful Bloomhill community will embrace her with open arms the moment they meet her. Georgie is such a genuine, down to earth and talented young woman - with big shoes to fill - but i have every confidence she is up for the challenge. It is going to be an awesome year."
