Bloomhill is planning a trial opening of seven of its Op Shops in a bid to generate much needed funding to keep its services running and continue to adapt to the changing COVID-19 landscape.

From Monday May 11 the Brightwater, Buderim, Beerwah, Cooroy, Tewantin and Maleny Op Shops will open from Monday to Friday for select hours with strict social distancing protocols in place.

The Distribution Centre and Op Shop at Kunda Park, which has remained open for donations to ensure there is good quality stock available for the Op Shops, will also continue to be open.

CEO Chris Franck said, “We are taking this step as Bloomhill is in dire need of income from the Op Shops to be able to continue to provide our critical services which support those living with cancer.

“Thanks to the JobKeeper Payment scheme our Op Shop managers are back on board, rearranging access and fitting out with social distancing measures and signage.

“We are also ensuring all Op Shop managers have successfully completed the government Infection Control Training for COVID-19 and that all volunteers are informed and willing to embrace new store practices.”

In line with the new State and Federal guidelines social distancing will be strictly monitored; there will be restrictions around the number of people inside the premises at any one time and safe hygiene requirements will be followed, including having hand sanitiser available for customers.

“You can rest assured we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our customers, staff and volunteers,” Mr Franck said.

“We hope the community will support us in a collaborative approach to help safely trial a return to trade so that we can continue to care for those with cancer throughout this critical time.”

Stores will only open during the trial period if sufficient volunteers are available. Bloomhill welcomes interest from new volunteers who are not considered high risk due to age or immune status to help staff Op Shops.
