Bloomhill’s “Hope and Peace from Within” photographic exhibition played a small role in the recent launch of the Maroochydore centre of private national cancer care provider Icon.

Icon centres are a combination of day oncology hospitals that deliver chemotherapy and treatment for blood disorders, radiation oncology centres and comprehensive centres that bring both day oncology and radiation therapy under one roof.

These new facilities significantly reduces the time patients have to spend receiving radiotherapy.

A small selection of Joe Surace’s photographic works were featured at the opening. Throughout October pieces from this powerful exhibition will be rotated through the centre, showcasing the various cancer journeys of Bloomhill clients.

Site Manager Stephanie Price welcomed the opportunity for Icon and Bloomhill Cancer Care to collaborate with other stakeholders in the community.

“Bloomhill is a wonderful example of what people can do when they are invested and committed to such an important cause,” she said.

Icon also launched a brand new state of the art radiotherapy machine at the opening. This is a brand new state of the art radiotherapy machine that has the ability to treat people with pinpoint accuracy and much quicker.

Icon is the only site on the coast to be providing stereotactic radiotherapy also. They are 1 of only 3 sites in Australia providing HyperArc therapy which focuses on multi brain metastasis. The aim is to give accurate radiotherapy but also to reduce side effects, which means patients have an improved quality of life.

We are extremely lucky to have these services on the Sunshine Coast. The centre is located in Wises Road, Maroochydore.
