Welcome to our August edition of Bloomhill News – our external newsletter to Stakeholders and the general public.

To say the past few months since our last e-newsletter have been busy is an understatement, with the next few months shaping up to be even bigger!

June saw a jam packed month of events and activities which culminated in our first ever Be There for Bloomhill Giving Day. The awareness and fundraising campaign was a roaring success raising just over $100,000! Wow!! Thank you so much to the entire Sunshine Coast community for getting behind the fun-filled campaign. It really was a blast and we can’t wait to do it again next year! We are very humbled by the community support.

I look forward to reporting back to you in the months to come of the real life impact your generosity is having on the lives of our clients and the services we offer at our Bloomhill Wellness Centre. In the meantime, please enjoy a short thank you video from all of us at Bloomhill.

To business matters - over the past 18 months I have been working closely with the Board and senior management team to identify opportunities to optimise operations and explore ways to generate new sustainable income streams to meet future demands for our services. One such opportunity is our recent partnership with Channel Rewards to establish the Bloomhill Cancer Care Deals Platform which we officially launch today.

The Bloomhill Cancer Care Deals Platform offers membership-based access to products and services from over 170 online specialty stores. $10 from every membership is returned to Bloomhill to help us plan for the future cancer care needs of the Sunshine Coast. This initiative has the potential to offer a substantial income stream for Bloomhill, ensuring the future sustainability of our Charity. So please, explore the great deals on offer, grab yourself a bargain, and spread the news far and wide across your networks! Please share this through all your social media contacts and help us sell 200,000 memberships!

In July I attended our annual Op Shop Strategic Planning Day, joined by Bloomhill Treasurer Michael Wise and Board member Jason Hope. The Bloomhill Distribution Centre and 11 Bloomhill Opportunity Shops are critical to the survival of our charity, providing approximately 75% of our annual income, directly supporting services offered at our Wellness Centre.

Growth in cheap imported clothing being sold through large retail groups, and rapid increase in online selling and distribution of clothing and furniture (Facebook Marketplace), are just some of the challenges currently facing the Op Shop sector. These market changes have the potential to overshadow the important role opportunity shops play within the Sunshine Coast community to promote sustainable living, and the 'recycled economy' - not to mention providing affordable clothing and furniture for people facing financial hardship.

New awareness signage, proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council grant program, will play an important role in connecting conscientious consumers back to the range of clinical and support services funded by our Op Shops. With thanks to the Lendlease Foundation Community grant program we are also the proud owner of a brand new Bloomhill branded Community Services Food Trailer funded. Together these initiatives seek to continue to raise awareness, engagement and support from the entire Sunshine Coast region we support.

Other news our readers will be keen to hear about is the expansion of our services with a new Cancer Survivorship Clinic now available at our Wellness Centre. The nurse-led cancer Survivorship Clinic provides specialised post-treatment support focused on addressing the side effects and health concerns that remain for many patients after their treatment is completed or for those on long-term maintenance treatment. Our Bloomhill Lymphoedema information and support service (BLISS) is also featured this month.

Our amazing volunteer family continues to grow, inspire and motivate us to achieve amazing things here at Bloomhill. In this issue we have featured our fabulous Community Café and Blooming Gardens teams who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help make Bloomhill an amazing place to be. I am sure like me, you will enjoy reading how and why these generous souls have come to be a part of our family and perhaps even inspire you to offer your time in support of our cause.

Last but not least there is something for everyone in our upcoming events calendar – jazz, blues, race day, markets – you name it we’ve got it. Excitedly, I am pleased to announce planning and logistics for our major fundraiser the Bloomhill Charity Auction are now in full swing. Thanks to Next Property Group, this annual event will again be a night of nights for the entire Sunshine Coast community to enjoy. This year the winner of our major raffle will be driving away in a $48,000 Mercedes Benz A-Class Hatch. Please let us know if you would like to donate prizes to promote and auction on the night.

Enough from me! Please enjoy this edition of Bloomhill e-news.

Your sincerely,

Chris Franck
