Fancy spending Sunday morning surrounded by the buzz of the Cotton Tree markets? Listening to live music, wandering stalls stacked with local arts and crafts, fashion and funky homewares - all surrounded by quality food and coffee outlets.

That’s every Sunday for Bloomhill’s Cotton Tree Markets Manager, Mariannje Morice, as she patrols the markets making sure everything runs like clockwork.

This year the markets are celebrating a special milestone – turning 30! The Cotton Tree markets have been managed by Bloomhill Cancer Care and raise funds for our wonderful organisation, for eight years.

Mariannje has great Bloomhill volunteers who help her out, but she needs more. Volunteer patrons (VPs) help with loading and unloading the van and setting up the precinct. Marquee volunteers do shifts starting at 8.30am or 10.30am and sell raffle tickets as well as talking to marketgoers who drop by for a chat, or are looking for information on Bloomhill’s services. Then there’s the Covid safe volunteers who check the Health Department requirements are being met.

Mariannje, who has been managing markets for many years, says the Cotton Tree markets are “a good face for Bloomhill”. “They support local artists and the community, and the volunteers are a bright, friendly team who enjoy the energy and vibrancy of the markets.”

So if you’d like to help out, and browse stalls packed with raw honey from local bees, gorgeous handmade jewellery, knickknacks, funky fashion and gourmet packaged goods this could be a volunteering opportunity for you.

And Mariannje promises that, aside from the market buzz, your Sunday shift won’t be boring. “I always have tasks for my volunteers.”
