Missing your weekend trip to the markets? Cotton Tree Markets will reopen this Sunday morning with organisers, Bloomhill Cancer Care, asking the community to support and help make it work.

CEO Chris Franck said the markets will operate in line with Covid-19 restrictions and they have been working to make the markets experience both safe and enjoyable.

“Bloomhill is perhaps more mindful than most of the need to protect the vulnerable in our community and we have put in place a number of measures in accordance with Government health and safety regulations.

“But we need to make it clear it is everyone’s responsibility to abide by social distancing and safe practices.”

Mr Franck said the trial opening of Op Shops last week is looking to have a positive effect so far with the public adhering to distancing and other measures.

“This success has given us the confidence to re-open the market this weekend”.

“We encourage marketgoers to head to Cotton Tree for their Sunday morning market experience, pick up some locally produced and sourced products and also support the local cafes and shops in the retail precinct.”

The Cotton Tree Markets are held in King Street, Cotton Tree and feature local artisans, a diverse range of fashions, original artworks, homewares and more.

The location, close to Maroochydore Beach and the Maroochy River mouth, is also a great place for a post-market walk or a Sunday picnic.

“We look forward to seeing people enjoy the markets and ask the community to show respect for each other, to follow directions and stay safe,” Mr Franck said.

As usual the Bloomhill marquee will be there and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. If you’d like to lend your support you can explore bloomhill.com.au/volunteers.

WHAT: Cotton Tree Markets

WHERE: King Street, Cotton Tree

TIME: 7am-noon

By supporting the Cotton Tree Markets (CTM) you’re not only supporting the Sunshine Coast’s local designers, you are also directly helping one of the Sunshine Coast’s most respected cancer charities.

Bloomhill runs the Cotton Tree Markets, held each Sunday.  Revenue from the stallholder site fees is used to support the services and programs offered at our Wellness Centre in Buderim.

You can play an important role in supporting the CTM transport and market stall logistics or by engaging with the community to spread the word about our client services, volunteer recruitment and fundraising activities.

Together you can help support our mission to help make the lives of people living with cancer just that little bit better, by raising awareness and funds that help break down barriers to accessing essential cancer treatment and support.

It takes a Village!

The Cotton Tree Markets is one of our largest volunteer supported social enterprise initiatives. And it takes a large number of volunteers with varied skill sets to make the experience fun for all while also supporting a great cause!

As we look to reopen the markets, post-COIVD-19, we are in need of a team of 24 motivated volunteers who are enthusiastic about early mornings and keeping socially connected with their community in a fun and COVID-safe way.

We are looking to roster teams of 3-4 volunteers on rotation - so you will still have plenty of Sundays to yourself!

There are a number of different volunteer roles linked to the markets, such as:

  • Driving Bloomhill van as instructed by Cotton Tree Market Consultant
  • Setup of Bloomhill marquee (must be physically fit to carry out this role)
  • Traffic management and first aid at the market site
  • Manning Bloomhill marquee and cute-as-a-button Community Engagement Trailer (providing information about our services and answering volunteer related enquires)
  • COVIDSafe stewards to help maintain physical distancing and safe social connection
  • Social media and community promotion
