Free sausages! Help Bloomhill recoup funds after lockdown income dip 2 September 2021 Bloomhill Cancer Care has moved our Maroochydore op shop and we’re having a relocation BBQ on Saturday 4 September from 9am-11am to celebrate. Free sausages for all! The BBQ on Saturday will be at the Bloomhill Op Shop, 54-56 Aerodrome Road, Maroochydore. It’s near Beefy’s Pies and you can park via Wrigley St or out front on Aerodrome Road. Bloomhill has always relied on op shop sales to support people touched by cancer. In 2020-2021 op shop sales contributed approximately 70% of our income. Interestingly, our first pre-loved item sales were more than 20 years ago at a market. The lady who ran it used to lock up shop by fastening a safety pin across a sheet that marked her stall. We now have 10 op shops, and a distribution centre, and trucks that’ll come pick up donated goods for free (call 07 5445 6858 to arrange collection). Lockdown impacts on our op shops and income – ouch! Whilst the August lockdown closed our op shops for one week, we had already experienced downturn in retail in July following the late June lockdown, increased mask wearing and COVID check-in requirements. For Bloomhill this has already had a significant impact of several $10,000s on earnings for the financial year. We rely heavily on every dollar that comes through our op shops and so we need the community’s ongoing support. “If you have any high value items gathering dust, now is the time to please give to any of our 10 op shops,” Chief Executive Officer Christopher John said. “We are planning (and hoping!) to recoup as much of these reduced sales as quickly as we can through the generosity of the community. “Gifts, particularly jewellery and other high value items, are most welcome! We have skilled teams who are ensuring donations sell for what they’re worth – so please do not feel it is a waste to donate valuable items to us.” Bloomhill’s op shops are at Caloundra, Beerwah, Maleny, Nambour, Brightwater (Mountain Creek), Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Buderim, Cooroy and Tewantin. “Our volunteer-powered op shops provide the main source of income for Bloomhill. We would like to acknowledge the kindness and generosity of our op shop team members (including 158 volunteers!) in raising funds so our care team can continue helping those touched by cancer with individualised support.” Please find contact details for Retail Lead Russell Lindsay and the 10 op shop teams here.
