Tempus Fugtit, meaning ‘time flies’ rings true with our Charity Auction to be held on October 2. Remember to save the date! This free event is filled with fun and entertainment and all proceeds directly help Bloomhill support people of all ages on the Sunshine Coast to live well with cancer.

And, the first donation we’ve received for this signature event is grand! For the time being and currently taking pride of place in our client waiting area is an awesome Grandfather Clock.

This stunning piece stands approximately 6’3” high and features delicate gold embossing at the face. Featuring a pendulum movement, the clock belonged to Mary Murray, a Sunshine Coast icon.

Mary lived life to the full before passing late last year at the age of 101. Bloomhill supporter Loren Wimhurst who also ensured the timepiece was safely delivered, knew Mary well and has many warm memories of the OAM holder.

“Mary would be thrilled to know the Grandfather Clock is now on show at Bloomhill in the lead up to the Charity Auction,” said Loren, who has known Mary since selling her home in 2000. “We got on well when first meeting and remained good friends. She was a character and absolutely hilarious

“Mary’s husband Fred was the original surveyor on the Coast in the 1950s. As a couple and individually, they did a lot for the Sunshine Coast.”

Mary, or ‘Muddy’ Mary Murray’ as she was often known, moved to the Coast in 1946. The family first settled in Nambour before relocating to Mary St, Alexandra Headland in 1961.

Cars played a significant part of Mary’s life. During the early years she started the first driving school in Nambour, was regarded as an accomplished rally car driver and word has it that she renewed her driver’s licence at 99. A good source tells me that when applying to renew, she was asked whether it was for a three or 5-year licence. Mary was affronted she would be asked such a silly question – really 5 years. I’d be 104!

This beautiful piece will take pride of place as part of our Charity Auction 2020.

Keep up to date on the Charity Auction
