Volunteers help Bloomhill through challenging time By Alex Bert, Community Services Manager We are grateful for the ongoing support of our wonderful volunteers who have met the challenges of COVID 19 with dedication and resilience. Across all programs and services volunteers have had to overcome many changes to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, customers and co-workers. Drivers had to wear masks as they continued to transport clients to and from appointments. We have all had to sanitise regularly and keep on top of COVID hot spot updates. The op shops had to close for a period, but many volunteers continued to process the ongoing donations. The wellness centre closed for a period, and clinical services shifted to a remote format, where Telehealth and Zoom were used by clinicians and clients. But somehow when we returned, the gardens were in their usual glorious form – some little elves had been visiting, perhaps? I want to give a big thank you to each and every volunteer who worked so hard to adapt to these changes. What a remarkable team we have, with an extraordinary commitment to pull through such a challenging time. We are all so happy that we’re again able to meet – even if it is in smaller, socially-distanced groups. Unfortunately we had to cancel our annual 2020 Volunteer Recognition Breakfast and our Christmas client and volunteers get together. Now more than ever it is so important that we celebrate our achievements together while staying safe. Please keep an eye out for what’s happening at your site as small celebrations are being planned for individual volunteer teams We have many opportunities available over many areas and welcome anyone who can help us. Bloomhill wouldn’t survive if it wasn’t for our many dedicated volunteers. Please talk to friends and family about joining our community – “Many hands make light work,” and a lot of fun!!
